We are redesigning the Workplace website and Workplace Chat iOS app to provide you with more modern and powerful experiences for work – both on desktop and mobile. With this update, we focus on improving performance, usability and your overall user experience.

Workplace's new website was built to give us a new foundation to improve the performance and accessibility of Workplace, which we know from feedback are important customer priorities. It will benefit from Facebook's powerful infrastructure, designed to help billions of people around the world stay connected. With this update we can continue to make performance and accessibility improvements in the future, while introducing exciting features to help colleagues connect and collaborate.

What’s new?

We are introducing several new functionalities and features, including but not limited to:

  • Dark Mode: Dark Mode helps minimise screen glare and is easier on the eyes, especially for use in low light conditions. You can switch to Dark Mode by going to your Profile Picture in the left Navigation → Settings → Display Options → Dark Mode

  • Full Width Mode: A wider feed provides a better experience to people using a large monitor by minimising wasted white space.
  • Better post creation experience: We modernised the post creation experience by collapsing the "Add to your post" section to improve focus, and added easier text formatting options.

  • Improved Accessibility: In addition to Dark Mode, we have introduced improved focus management, easier keyboard navigation and support for screen readers. To learn more about accessibility support on Workplace, visit our Help Center.
  • Faster: Using cutting-edge infrastructure components developed at Facebook, the Workplace website is now significantly faster, making it easier for you to find the things you need to get work done.

We have completely rebuilt the website from the ground up on an entirely new code base, so some features have changed and some may be missing temporarily as it is being rebuilt. As part of an effort to improve performance and support your productivity, we have also decided to permanently remove some low-usage features.

During the Early Access period (August 12th - December 9th), the new website is available to all customers and individual users can switch back and forth between the new and classic experiences. Company Admins can also switch their entire company back to the classic experience at any time if they wish. For more information please read the FAQ.

December 9th - Old website no longer available
Your Workplace will be moved to the new Workplace website and you will no longer be able to access the classic experience. Note: Internet Explorer 11 users will continue to use the old experience.

I’m an Admin, how do I turn on / off the new website experience to try it myself?

As an Admin, you can try the new website by turning it on for your own account only. To do this, click on your profile picture in the bottom left-hand corner, then click on "Use improved Workplace website".

I’m an Admin, how do I turn on / off the new website experience for company?

From 12 August - 9th December, system admins can turn on / off the improved website for their entire Workplace via the post in the Upcoming features section of the What's new page in the Admin Panel. Admins can select a start and end date of their early access period. By default, all companies received the new experience on August 26th, but you can push your start date until December 9th to delay getting the new experience.

I am an employee. How can I go back to the classic website if I don't want to use the improved website?

Before December 9th you will be able to go back to the old website. To do this, click on the profile picture in the bottom left-hand corner, then click on "Use classic Workplace Website". You will no longer see this option after December 9th.

When will missing features be available in the new experience?

All missing features will be available by October for you to try before the final transition on December 9th.

When will the new experience be rolled out to everyone?

On December 9th, your Workplace will be moved to the new Workplace website, and will no longer be able to access the old Workplace website. Note: IE11 users will continue to use the classic experience.

We have rebuilt the Workplace Chat iOS app to provide a more modern and powerful mobile experience for work. Ultimately, the new app comes with improved performance and productivity, while also taking up only a fraction of the space on your phone compared to the current app. We are also introducing new features such as Dark Mode.

  • Faster navigation and smaller app: The new Workplace Chat iOS app is now faster overall. Starting the app and loading a message takes significantly less time on average. The app is easier to use and takes up only a quarter the space on your phone compared to the current app.

I am a System Admin. How can I join early access?

If you’d like to be part of our early access program, please navigate to the new Workplace Chat iOS post in the Upcoming Features section of What’s New in the Admin Panel > Manage early access > Choose either to opt in the System Admins of your Workplace or your whole Workplace.

I am a System Admin. Can I switch my Workplace back to the old Chat iOS app?

Yes, admins can switch back to the the old version until November 4th. To do this, navigate to the Workplace Chat iOS post in the Upcoming Features section of What’s New in the Admin Panel > Manage early access > Choose "No one".

Unfortunately users cannot switch back themselves. Admins have to switch back their whole Workplace. After November 4th, you will no longer be able to access or use the current Chat iOS app.

If I don’t move my Workplace to the new iOS app, will we be moved automatically?

Yes, we will automatically move your Workplace to the new Chat iOS app on Novembr 4th. We will notify you of this date in-product and via email. Until November 4th, you will still be able to move back to the current Chat iOS app. After November 4th, you will no longer be able to access or use the current Chat iOS app.

If you are on the Essential plan, your Workplace has already been moved to the new Chat iOS app.

How long does it take to get the new app (or switch back)?

It takes on average one day to receive the new iOS app or to switch back to the current one. Once your Workplace has switched over, all users will need to restart the app twice in order to use the different version of the app.

How can I give feedback?

Please navigate to Settings in the Workplace Chat iOS app and select “Send Feedback”.

Will there be updates to the Workplace Chat Android app as well?

We are making small changes on the Android app to make it consistent with the iOS app.
